Projects, computers, music, technology.. Let me tell you all about it!
Tell me about your background with computers?
I have a strong background with computers spanning over many years, I have sourced and sold computers and engaged with many people in different ways. My first business was a phone-repairs business, I later moved on to focus primarily on computers in general and I've often sold on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree.
I'm currently interested in moving towards building and creating things, and working with electronics more in-depth, so more programming and more fabrication.
I have experience performing many different kinds of electronics repairs on various devices including TV's, laptops, desktops, phones and many more items - including a turntable!
I have experience programming various different kinds of scripts to help automate functions particularly relating to my business, the languages I have experience in are HTML & CSS, JavaScript, Python, PowerShell and batch-scripts, I'm most experienced in HTML & CSS, Python and using PowerShell.
What is your approach to learning?
I really like to learn through working on projects because I find that it's closer to the natural way of learning where a person has a problem and then they find a solution to that problem, when you work like this, the things that you're doing align properly and they flow better, your memory works better, there's more motivation to do what you're doing and there's a purpose that is achievable and has some kind of reward at the end of it.
In contrast my experience of mainstream education has been quite frustrating because I find that it's delivered with different priorities in mind, it's often delivered in blocks that don't always connect together well, the material doesn't always relate to useful things and it kind of makes me think of the terms robot-learning or compliance-based-learning.
I find mainstream learning mostly focused on compliance and validation of skills rather than actually obtaining those skills, so my take on how I approach learning, it's definitely a project-focused or project-based learning. One is passion focused, the other feels like an endless state of jumping through hoops with nothing in return.
To end this on a good note, project based learning is something I love!
Why do you build things?
I like building things to improve my skills in building and creating new things, I am hoping to be able to work on larger projects in the future that focus on solving human-related problems particularly if they are environmental issues.
When I work on projects I see myself growing slowly and surely, this mindset is in stark contrast to how I have operated in my earlier stages of life, but being able to reflect and accept that things take time has been super solid for me π.
So you aren't you like.. a superstar or something?
π₯² I sometimes like to think so aha! π
Music has been complicated for me, it's been a large part of my life in my teens to mid-late 20s, I love freestyle singing and rapping, I really enjoyed going to a Hip-Hop youth programme for many years, I've also enjoyed making many cool songs with FL Studio and performing under the artist name CheekyBoy - https://cheekyboyofficial.com.
Despite so many good experiences I have also experienced many darker aspects of music as well, I have struggled a lot with my self esteem and my chronic health condition. Currently I would say I am healing from some of the more negative aspects of music, one day I would like to do something with music again but under a different mindset, one where I don't place so much pressure on myself..
It might just be me singing to all the cute little creatures of the forest, you know.. like telling the little spiders they're gorgeous or like cat-calling the bees and telling them they're hard-working honeys aha! π
What are your interests?
I have a nice array of interests π€, such as programming, automating things and improving systems. I like watching shows at night and love getting into cool TV series like The Walking Dead, The Vikings, Game of thrones, The amazing world of gumball and Adventure Time.
I can both enjoy working on computers and despise them too (if you do what I do you'd understand).
I love riding my E-scooter, I love E-scooters, that's just a hands down yes from me, they're so useful. As I mentioned above, I love freestyle singing and freestyle rapping, once you tune into that state of flow you feel like you can do anything.
Probably what I enjoy most is being connected to people, especially people I can have a solid laugh with.. one from the diaphragm. I enjoy my own company well enough as I often find some really cool projects to work on.
Lastly I really enjoy playing certain games, I usually enjoy finding games where I get somewhat hooked on them, but they are not trying to exploit me with every addictive element that they can, something with a good story-line is solid as well.
